Back to Blogging and a Few Personal Updates

It's been awhile since my last entry.

My hubby brought us to his parent's home for a 2-week vacation. Unfortunately, they do not have internet access hence I had to go silent for awhile. I miss blogging, and so here I am announcing my return.

MJ is growing a bit faster than I expected. He's kinda 'hyper-active' these days and I started noticing that there some solid that he simply do not like, and a few that he like so much. My mother-in-law told me that it is but natural.

It is indeed true. In fact I read in a parenting magazine awhile ago that the disliking for certain food is but natural. Something that is not learned nor taught. Growing babies has the natural taste for or liking for some food and dislikes the rest.

Okey. It is not that I am complaining, but I am really learning a lot from the experience.

Any thoughtful mom out there who has a similar experience?

Photo Birth Announcements for My Baby

Our first and only baby was truly a bundle of joy. Friends and family members rejoiced with us. I could not possibly expressed in exact words the happiness and fulfillment I felt that time, and even in fact, now as I try to recall what transpired more than a year ago when baby Mat blessed us with his arrival in our family. The 9 months of discomforts and the (undetermined) hours of labor were all worth it. How do I preserve those moments? How do I announce to the world how the heavens gave us a gift of life?

Designer birth announcements are most appropriate, especially the kind that Photoaffections can provide or deliver. Their photo birth announcements are superbly designed and are really fabulous. I want all my friends and relatives to take souvenirs of Mat’s joyful entry into our lives. And I want that to be in style.

Photoaffections can deliver all of that at affordable and competitive prices and very easy way. All you have to do is choose any of their elegant design templates, submit quality digital images of your baby, and presto, in two days or less you can view and approve the custom proof of your baby cards. These then are printed and delivered at your doorsteps. That simple. Again you may asked, why chose them over others who offer exactly the same service? I should say, because they produce true designer quality cards in true rue photographic printing and they have been in the printing business since 1997, therefore they are reliable and they are certainly the smart choice.

For my first baby, I will not take less than what they can offer, even goes with my second baby should the Lord bless us again. My baby deserve only the best, nothing more, nothing less.

Playing online casino in between

Life can sometimes be boring at home when everything seems to be quiet and peaceful. The hubby is at work, and the baby is sound asleep. Other than blogging, which sometimes I tend to lose my enthusiasm with, I try to look for other aversion online. Occasionally, an interactive MMORPG’s would fill those dull moments. Lately, I tried online casino for fun.

It is surprising to note that there are so many gambling sites out there in the net. Browsing them one by one is not fun you know. Good thing that there is Pro360 which provides reviews of these online casino games. It cut the time considerably to allow you to enjoy more of the game of your choice. They have provided good reviews of these sites so that you can choose an online gambling game that will meet your preferences. In my case, I simply want to break the monotony of my household chores and have fun in the process.

Aid to Convenient Online Shopping

Because of the baby, I do most of my shopping online. Besides, why queue on a long line in a department stores and spend gasoline going there when you can conveniently shop on line. Whenever I reach a buying decision, it is already a force of habit, I look for the shopping cart icon on the site or near the product, I would like to order. It is frustrating sometimes to see that other websites do not have any, and yet they are trying to sell.

A shopping cart software , I understand, is an aid for convenient shopping. An ecommerce software like what Ashop Commerce provides is an indispensable tool for anyone who tries to sell online. Otherwise, it would be an exercise in futility to make a sales pitch only to make your customers want to buy, but they cannot because you have not provided a shopping cart for them to use. If you are one of these website owners, try Ashop Commerce today.

A New Hobby for 2008: Sewing

My mother-in-law, though retired, is still a workaholic. You cannot find her idle. She’s always on the move, and busy with a lot of things. If she’s not learning a new recipe, she’s gardening. If she’s not gardening, she’s sewing, and more. She can’t seem to get tired.

On our long visit during the holidays, I was amazed at the things he sew on her old singer sewing machine. In fact, in my fascination, I ask her to teach me, which he gladly did. So now, my baby and I would visit her twice a week and she teaches me to sew with her cranky sewing machine. It was fun and relaxing. Although the last time I almost stitched my own hand. I think I am already falling in love with this activity, and is now becoming a hobby. Good thing that my hubby agreed to buy the latest model of singer sewing machine so that I can polish more my craft. Who knows, with this new hobby (and skill) I might be able to make money from it and forget about getting back to office work. That would mean more time with my baby and home stuff, which are actually my most important priorities.

We are renovating in 2008!

Finally, my hubby agreed to have our house fully renovated this year. We have the plans drafted already by one of our architect friends. Work should commence by March and expected to be completed in 90 days. A lot of things needed to be done. And I bet, with our baby on the tow, I will not be able to return for work, within the year I think as I planned it. Anyway, that can wait. I am more excited about the renovation. Besides, I get to dictate what I wanted for the renovation.

One of the major things that needed to be overhauled in our humble house is the lightings. Whew! We are quite surprised at the cost we will be shelling for the lightings. Anyhow, my hubby and I agreed that the lightings are what really gives life and vibrancy on our house especially at night. So, the lightings took the highest priority. Thus, I began scouring the internet, and landed at Upscale Lighting homepage.

What followed next was spending the whole day browsing the online catalogues, looking at chandeliers, wall lights, Lemnis Pahrox LED Bulb, Meyda Tifanny Lamps, etc. While thumbing on the Brand overview Upscale Lighting, I cannot help but be enchanted by a hosts of available alternatives. The website literally offers all the known brands in the lighting business. Much more, gorgeous bathroom accessories, cute candles and candleholders, and mirrors are waiting for the taking. I do not know how my hubby will react with the list I came out with after this.

Who would not want a home that is beautiful inside and out? I have always argued that investing on a home to make it an ideal and beautiful place to live in is not a waste of money. Being comfortable at home is priceless.

Support A Campaign Against Drug Addictions

Drug addiction is a menace to our society. I will do what I can to prevent this menace in invading my community. This is my way of protecting myself, my family and my baby. It is one of the reasons why I actively participate in Charity Boat Donations and encourage others to join.

BoatAngel accepts boat donations and sells them on ebay at www.charityboatsales.org for the prupose of creating and distributing (even free shipping) Free DVDs that feature anti-drug use campaign. One noteworthy accomplishment they have made is the movie D.O.P.E. This anti-drug use documentary movie, which stars skateboard legends Jay Adams from Dogtown's Z Boys, Christian Hosoi, Dennis Martinez (world champion), Bruce Logan (world skateboarding champion), features how they became famous, a legend in skateboarding, then became drug addicts and eventually recovered. I highly recommend this movie to be watched by schoolchildren. It serves as a warning. In fact, you can arrange with BoatAngel for group viewing. To give you further info what this is all about, please watch this trailer:

It is my prayer and hope that you will join and support this anti-drug use campaign. Thank you so much and may God bless your hearts! Happy Holidays!

Show some kindness, Donate a Boat this Christmas

Christmas is the season for love, sharing and giving. Our society is riddled with unfortunate people and children needing help and we cannot simply turn our back on those realities nor pretend we heard nothing and we have seen nothing. I am sorry if I sound emotional on this. I would like to send the message from the heart.

We do not even have to give money in this worthy campaign. If you are a boatman as a hobby, and you have purchased a brand new boat this Christmas. Why don’t you donate your old boat for a worthy cause than just let it rot in your back yard. BoatAngel accepts boat donations and sells them on ebay at www.charityboatsales.org for the purpose of creating and distributing absolutely free of charge (even free shipping) Children's Animations DVDS. Also, they are into anti-drug abuse campaign. We are all aware that the common victims of drug abuse are children and young adults. This campaign surely needs and deserves our full support. Donate my boat is a good gesture this Christmas. Probably, not only this season, but beyond the season as well..

Give some love today. Take action now. Show some kindness, donate boat this Christmas. Join others in this worthy campaign by BoatAngel.

Chat Lines: A Cure for Household Chores Boredom

When I was single, I have enjoyed phone chat with my boyfriend (my hubby now) and friends. I can literally stay on the phone the whole day until it burns in my ear. Then, comes the internet where you can easily find free chat over an instant messenger and chat lines services. Amazing! You can easily meet new friends (and boyfriends, shhhhh!) and the fun and excitement is always there. However, still, nothing beats phone chats, and it can be a good cure for household chores boredom too.

Mister Gammon

Sometimes household chores can be boring. It is good though that I get to browse the internet and blog when the baby is sound asleep. Recently, I came across an online backgammon. I was skeptical at first. I thought it was just an online gambling, but I was wrong. First and foremost it is a free backgammon online. Although, if you want to play for money, this backgammon game by Mister Gammon is a sure hit. Why don’t you give it a try and see how it goes.

Yuletide Affairs: A Busy Season for Mommy

" 'tis the season to be jolly, pa la la la..."
The thrill, the excitement, and joy envelopes my aura whenever I start hearing Christmas carols. 'Tis the time of the year again for joyous celebrations and festivities. Thank God, I am finally done with my gift shopping and have them all wrapped. Now, I am busy preparing the menu for the Christmas dinner.

It will be a busy yuletide season for us. We have scheduled to visit many friends, relatives and the in-laws. I hope just that the holiday is shorter this time. Ha! What a vain wish.

Wednesaday Rant

Life can be a drag sometimes. You can't hardly get-up in the morning, unless my baby is already wailing for my attention. Can there be another life other than this?

My baby always perks up my day. When I watch MJ sleep, I can easily snap out of my boredom -such a beautiful gift from God. I can't thank Him enough for that.

My hubby doesn't seemed to be mindful about the growing boredom that is starting to awaken my morning. I miss work. I miss the day to day grind of buzzling business in the office. Driving to work and all. I do understand, it's different now. I am a mom. My office now is the kitchen. I no longer drive to work bu I drive to pick up grocery sullies and baby food. Sometimes, I wonder if it is work it o leave my job and be a full time homemaker. I think I should discuss it with my hubby?

Anyway, the company of MJ suit sit well. On that part -no regrets.

On Car Buying

If there is a disagreement between my hubby, and me, it is always been buying a new car. When I say a new car, it does not necessarily mean a brand new one. It could be a second-hand car. Out third car purchase was a brand new American made sedan, and we are still paying for it actually.

He (my hubby) said that it is worth the investment, of course, I disagreed. Our other car (this is the one I regularly use) was still in good condition, but he insisted in buying a new one to replace it. One more thing, I prefer a Japanese car -Honda cars in particular -to Detroit made cars; again we disagreed on that. Then, here comes the price. I insisted on comparing quotes, I had a competitive Honda Car Quotes already on hand, yet he seems not to be on the right mind to even bother to look at them. Well, how do I outwit him without resorting into a fight?

Before I signed the mortgage documents, I went on my last ditch tactics. I asked him to look at the comparative price analysis I made on an excel sheet, between American Car Brands European Made, Korean Brand Cars, and that of the Honda Car Prices, of course. Well?

We ended up purchasing a Blue Honda Civic Sedan. Yipeee! Why? Hmmm. Let me see. He has always wanted to purchase a new Sony Laptop before Christmas, so the savings from that purchase would add up. I got my Honda Car and he got his Sony Laptop. It was all a win-win situation.

My Dual Role: Homemaker and Home Accountant

I inherited a custom or practice from my Asian mom, that is, as a homemaker you have the dual role of an accountant. Although, nowadays husband and wife choose both to work, but still the wife should have the acumen to budget –I am bias here I know.

Unfortunately, I am currently unemployed due to the need to take care of our baby son. My hubby’s salary is enough for our needs, I guess. But I must admit that there are occasions that both ends don’t meet. Good though, there are Payday Loans services available to turn to.

However, before you run into a loan service facility, feeling like withdrawing from an ATM machine, take time to compare prices or rates. PaydayLoanQuotes.com will help you in that area. This is a payday loan-matching site. It matches lenders and borrowers by comparing prices and services on available short-term loans in the market. Once you applied for a loan, they will look for a lender that will match your needs, so that you will be able to avail a hassle-free loan.

What does it take to qualify for a short-term loan? You have to be a bonafide employee or have a stable source of income, and then you are eligible for validation or processing. No credit checks. No need to submit any requirements. You process everything online –it is a No Fax Payday Loans facility. No credit checking. These faxless payday loans are your saving grace in time of dire needs. For a homemaker home-accountant like me, this alternative is like having an extra wallet on the side.

A young mother’s dilemma

I vacillate between going back to my previous work and taking care of my baby personally. I don’t want to be in this impasse. Though my hubby allowed me to decide for myself, I could not make up my mind.

My mom always told me that the first five years of my baby’s life are the most crucial. Well, she’s right. The first smile, first syllables, first time he learned to walk and all the firsts occurred or will likely occur on those first five years.

As much as I want to return to my career, I am being held back by this thought. My son is only over a year old, and there is so much to enjoy about his growing up that I don’t want to miss. He is simply too adorable to be left behind with a nanny.

A Young Mom’s Practical tips on Vacationing

My hubby is a workaholic. We have an agreement before we got married that he will be fending for us while I will take care of the house and the kids. It seems to me like a very good arrangement –he brings home the bacon, I cook it, and we eat it together, so to speak. In the same manner, whenever we plan for a well deserved vacation, he takes care of the funds and I get to plan our vacation itineraries. Here’s my vacation planning checklist, you might learn something from this practical tips, which by the way I got from my mom too:

Vacation Dates. Choose your schedule carefully. Look at the husbands’ calendar lest your vacation will be interrupted because he needs to get back home early and attend something in the office. When schedules are made in advance and carefully chosen, it is most likely that people who know that you are not around in those days can make the necessary adjustments. Inform also any other people, where and when necessary, about your schedule and how you can be reached in cases of urgent matters.

Destination. Choose your destination/s carefully too. If you are planning of getting out of the country, it pays to do a little browsing about the country of your choice. Do a little reading about its basic geography, language, culture, and customs. See where your embassy is located so that you can easily reach them in cases of needs. If you are bringing the kids, ask them whether they will be enjoying bathing under the sun in a gorgeous beach resort somewhere in the Caribbean or would prefer wilderness experience in a reservation park.

Transportation and Accommodations. Find a value-fared plane or car rental when needed. Book for a hotel or a vacation rental in advance. Choose what suit your needs and your budget. Compare prices and amenities so that you will have the best value accommodation. You don’t want to ruin your vacation because the hotel does not have a pool will ya?

Travel Documents. Prepare all the required travel documents, e.g., passports (with visa when required), health and medical insurance cards, international driver’s license, green cards, doctor's prescription letter, and credit cards, and other papers that you need to bring. Make a check list on this. Also, know the entry and exit requirements for the country you are about to visit and bring the required documents. Don’t forget your plane tickets, will ya.

Baggage. Make a checklist of the necessary things that you need to carry. Underscore the word necessary. Why? For one, it is expensive to pay for extra baggage. Secondly, too many things is cumbersome and is not convenient for you if you are traveling. Prepare a checklist and prioritize. Don't forget any medications that any member of your family might need.

There you go, my practical tips for an unforgettable vacation. I hope you learn something. If I missed out something, please feel free to add or suggest.

Insurance value for a mom like me

Divorce could be very devastating for a wife, like me, who depended entirely on the income earned by the husband. Worse, should a demise of one of our family members occur.

Life insurance is a good guarantee that is, guaranteeing the future of the lives of my family. Without which, the future seems to be full of doubts. Other housewives tend to think that paying insurance premiums is a waste or a chip on the household budget –I think otherwise. Insurance, particularly - term life insurance, is an investment for the future. My hubby just have an excellent term life insurance quote the other month on an affordable monthly premium. That little amount spared for this is a guaranteed huge amount for our beneficiaries.

Isn’t nice for a mom to continue on her daily chores and less worried about her future and the future of her family? Definitely yes. Oh, I almost forgot, I should have that life insurance quote for baby Mathew today.

Blogging as a form of relief and a blog that makes sense

I am a busy housewife. Blogging is a form of relief, and respite from all my daily chores. What is frustrating nowadays in blog browsing is the growing population of internet marketing blogs that offer a short-cut key to making huge money over the internet, only to find out later that everything is just but a hype to solicit traffic. Hence, quality blogs that really mean business go unnoticed –take the case of allinachor.com.

Allinanchor.com is an internet marketing blog run by the founder of Active Internet Marketing. What does this means? It means that the bloggers behind this are credible and know what they are really talking about. This blog is a great source of internet marketing, SEO tips and news. For a busy mom like me, this blog sure makes a lot of sense. So, if you are looking for a better blog where you can participate or if you are looking for stuff that will help you in your blogging, then check em out.

Why wait until it's too late?

When it comes to your children’s health, Prevention and Protection are the way to go. Here’s how to tackle five of the most common – and even serious – childhood ailments today.

Hepatitis A is caused by the hepatitis A virus, which is found in the stool of those infected with the disease. Hepatitis A can be fatal and often requires hospitalisation. Other symptoms include severe stomach pain, diarrhoea and jaundice.

Prevention . Children between the ages of 12 and 23 months should get vaccinated. Two doses of the vaccines, given six months apart, should be administered for lasting protection.

Hepatitis B is a serious infection of the liver. Those infected can become lifelong carriers of the virus and suffer from general symptoms such as malaise, or even develop long-term problems such as chronic liver disease and liver cancer. Hepatitis B can only be diagnosed through a blood test. While there are drugs available for treatment of adults, unfortunately, there hasn’t been enough research yet to certify these drugs safe for children.

Prevention. All pregnant women should be tested for the Hepatitis B virus early in their pregnancy. If the blood test returns positive, the baby should receive the Hepatitis B vaccine – along with the Hepatitis B Immune Globulin – within the first 12 hours of birth.

Protection. The Hepatitis B vaccine is given in a series of three injections. For babies born of mothers who are not carrying the Hepatitis B virus, the first injection is usually administered before leaving the hospital. However, it may also be taken at the four- or eight-week visit to the paediatrician. The second and third injections are often taken alongside other routine childhood immunizations.

Whooping Cough is an infection of the respiratory system, characterized by the “whoop” sound children and adults make when they try to breathe in after a severe coughing spell.
Anyone infected with whooping cough can spread it through coughing, sneezing, or even simply by talking to someone else. This is because the disease is spread via tiny droplets of saliva that contain the bordetella pertussis bacterium. Children and babies with low natural immunization are especially susceptible.

Prevention. The single most effective prevention measure is vaccination for parents and all other people that the child comes in close contact with regularly. In the past, there was no adequate vaccine for adults due to undesirable side effects of the child DTP, but there is now an adult version of the DTP which protects you from all three diseases for 10 years.

Protection. There is no permanent protection against whooping cough, but immunisation through the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP) vaccine has proven to be highly effective.
Most parents diligently ensure that their child gets the required doses at the recommended ages of 18 months, three, four and five years. However, the fifth dose is often neglected although it provides maximum protection for the child. This is to be administered at the age of six.

Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Until all crops of lesions have crusted over on the infected person, the disease continues to be contagious. The incubation period varies from two to three weeks and the virus can easily be transmitted from the infected person a few days before rashes appear.

Prevention. If your child is not yet vaccinated, it is best to keep him away from sufferers of chicken pox – whether at home or in school. If he contracts chicken pox, ask your doctor about the effective and fast-acting anti-viral tablets that can ease the discomfort of your child. It helps to reduce the duration and severity of the chickenpox infection, accelerate healing and potentially diminish long-term scarring.

Protection. Any one above 12 months of age and hasn’t got a history of chickenpox can go for the chickenpox vaccination. The immune system takes about two weeks to build up protection. A single vaccination is sufficient for 12-year-olds and younger. A booster vaccination may be advisable in particular cases and a two-dose schedule should be used in anyone above 12 years old.

Rotavirus infection (Gastroenteritis) is the most common cause of gastroenteritis in young children worldwide. Also known as rotavirus infection, gastroenteritis is a viral infection of the digestive tract. Studies have shown that gastroenteritis is so prevalent that virtually all children get infected at least once within the first five years of their lives. In fact, one in every two infants hospitalised for diarrhoea is diagnosed with rotavirus infection.

Prevention. One of the best ways to protect your child from rotavirus infection is through breastfeeding. It is also ideal for you to disinfect his regular play areas and toys. It is just as important to maintain strict hygiene practices at home – such as helping your child wash his hands after using the toilet, and washing your own hands after diaper-changing, or when preparing and serving food.

Protection. World-renowned pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline has recently introduced a safe and effective rotavirus vaccine that is now approved for use in Singapore. Please request your child’s paediatrician for detailed information.

6 – in - 1. In Singapore, the newest edition is DTPa-IPV-Hib- Hepatitis B (DTPa-IPV-Hib-HBV or ‘6-in-1’) vaccine. These vaccines are not experimental or research vaccines. They have been in use for several years in many developed countries. The Ministry of Health of Singapore has approved these for use in babies and children.

There are four primary considerations in favour of this combined vaccine:
  • Reducing the number of injections and visits to the doctors
  • Combined vaccine will reduce the number of injections and visits to the paediatricians for the babies. It is possible to complete the primary vaccination series (i.e. vaccination within the first year of life) with three injections.
Flu Jab. Influenza is usually a more severe illness than the common cold and typically has a sudden onset with headache, chills and cough followed rapidly by a fever, appetite loss, muscle aches, and tiredness. Thankfully, the influenza vaccination can offer some protection against the virus.

After vaccination, the body’s immune system produces antibodies against the inactivated virus in the vaccine. If you are exposed to the real virus, the antibodies prevent the infection or reduce the likelihood of severe illness should infection occur. The Ministry Of Health recommends that travellers, both adults and children above six months, going to temperate countries in the Northern Hemisphere protect themselves against the disease with influenza vaccination. Children who have chronic disorders of the lungs or heart or who require regular medical follow-up or hospitalisation because of chronic metabolic diseases, kidney or blood disorders are advised to be vaccinated against influenza as well.
